MP Controller: Game Changer? Demo with Dawesome Myth & GForce DMX
MP Controller, a very special MIDI device is currently about to turn my usual workflow upside down. I know, the term is often overused at the moment, but for me this controller is definitely a game changer, because it makes software plugins actually feel like real hardware. Here is my first experience report:

Stereo synth for 40 bucks: a wired heart for scary drones
Переглядів 9306 місяців тому
Be warned: the Wired Heart is not for everyone. It’s not a musical instrument that lets you play Xmas songs. It’s rather a special kind of drone synth that you may use for the score of your next horror movie or just as a rich stereo source for your next sampling session. But if you think this could also be a visually appealing gift, be careful and watch this video first! Otherwise, one day you ...

So, here I will provide a guided review especially addressing questions that you might ask as an interested novice. But I hope that my comparative approach to synth selection will also be inspiring for more advanced users. 00:00 Intro...
PRO-800 vs. Prophet-5: David and Goliath?
Переглядів 43 тис.11 місяців тому
Behringer PRO-800 has a lot of prophetic DNA but is it enough to compare with the Prophet flagship? Actually, here comes a renewal of the classical comparison Prophet-5 vs. Prophet 600, which was of some interest in the early 80s when the first Prophet with MIDI appeared. Now that Behringer comes with an extended remake of the P600 at a sensational price, you may ask if today's Sequential Proph...

TD-3 surprise: sweetest vibrato (talk & jam)
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
Behringers TD-3 is possibly not the first synth you might think of when you are looking for awesome lead sounds. Here I show that it is nevertheless a nice option, despite some limitations that come with the focus on sequenced bass sounds. In particular, a keyboard-controlled vibrato effect would be highly desirable for expressive play … here it is!

NINA synth: dreams come true (review & jam)
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
Melbourne instruments NINA shows how synthesizers should be built to provide the best of both worlds: the look and feel of a real instrument and the total recall comfort of a software plugin. Thereby NINA defines total recall in the most consequent sense with an approach that makes up a milestone in synthesizer history. The only disadvantage: once you have played with NINA any other synth feels...

Thank you Pete for this test compare, i see that filter switch is on 1/2 (Rev 1/2 with SSM Filter) probably it should be better to set on Rev3 with Cem 3320 Filter (clone 3320 there is inside Pro 800). I think for this way some preset has different tune.
Thanks. REALLY good use example!
😊
Sir this needs template made for a Rolamd MV8800 and TR8s maybe vs2480...automation ooooo...or an Aleis miniak!!!!!! Lol
Very Mechwarrior splash page.
I also added a comment to an official video asking what happens if there is no VST but you want to work in the DAW itself, as in my case The Grid within Bitwig Studio. Hast du eine Ahnung?
In principle, it should work, there is an app that turns the device into a more general midi controller. The display is always used as a second desktop, that is not restricted to plugin windows.
@@PeteMidi thanks!
@@PeteMidi How stable is it? I have become a bit apprehensive about boutique manufacturers ever since I bought a Tasty Chips GR1 years ago. It didn’t work properly and the manufacturer simply refused to fix the problem. I suspect it was totally bug ridden. I had to become quit firm to make them take it back.
Up to now my experience is very good (macbook air m1 sonoma & ableton). Hardware and Software seem to be in a stable state, no crashes so far. I had a few times contact with the support, always with a prompt and competent response.
Am I to understand that one sees the full computer screen which is then surrounded by configurable labels for the controllers? Or is that “screen” an individual, resizable portion of the VST’s surface on which one can zoom in?
It's a second screen where the plugin window is shown, on the main screen you usually have the DAW, in my case Ableton live.
Reminds me of the PPG Realiser. Which is not a bad thing. Looks like it could be a perfect match for my Bitwig Studio The Grid built dream synthesizer (which combines a lot of CS80 influences with granular sampling and resonator modeling). Great jam, by the way!
PPG realizer 👍😊
@@PeteMidi English spelling or US spelling. Who cares? 😁
BTW just realized that the realizer is still available, at Reverb, for not much more than 100000 Euro/Dollar 😄
@@PeteMidi It’s a steal! But does it actually run?
Hey, Pete. This looks very nice. Is it quite expensive?
Thanks 😊 it's around 700 Euro
@@PeteMidi it's a lot less than I expected! I'm even more interested. Thanks Pete. Forgot to mention - very nice jam👍 Cheers ✌️
😊
Their website says Eu 780 including worldwide shipping but also that it is currently out of stock.
@@marcbrasse747 Hey, Marc, thanks so much for that! Cheers 👍
What's making the drum part?
Elektron Syntakt
You talk like count Drakularrrr
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Powerful little beast 😁
Just awesome. I this my wife is getting me one for Father’s Day 😊
😄
Great sounding tune.
Thanks! 😊
It's a Bolca!
You’ve made this sound exceptionally deep and complex
Many thanks! 😊
Hearing the Pro-800 is like watching Escape From New York where everything is identical but Snake Plissken is played by a Kurt Russel impersonator.
😄
I guess...you're playing the DRUM part with your toes. Impressive! Been looking at the touch II. The pricing on 'some' MPE controllers is SO stupid these days.
😊 Yes, the Erae touch 2 is very interesting!
Excellent review and the demos are inspiring! I love this channel!
Thank you so much! 😊
I absolutely love the syntakt. I was never interested in the elektron workflow, but I had never used it. But when I needed a drum synth, I grabbed a syntakt. I immediately fell in love with it, and now I understand why everyone loves elektron sequencers. The only reason I sold it is the lack of polyphony. I need chords, and their chord device doesn’t really work for me. If they make a syntakt 2 that has actual polyphony, I’m getting it immediately
Thanks for the feedback! I use a polyphony workaround, with several tracks combined via Midi...
Your jams are very hypnotic Pete 14:19
Thanks a lot! 😊
This is absolutely insane tbh...
Pro-800 or Model D is what i am choosing between as my first synth... Cant really decide if i want poly or mono though
Pura falsedad e hipocresía, todos queréis un P5, admitidlo, bellacos.
Playing with the panning on each separately would've got some nice results
SOOooH INSpireING
😄
I JUST LOVE Comming back to your video,s Pete You always come up with another Brilliant way to push the bounderies of what a synth can do And THIS Is another CLASSIC
Thank you so much! 😊
Great video! Couldn't really find in the description how you did the setup/connections. How did you connect the nymphes to the ipad? via the iPad camera connector(for midi)? And if so, did you also power it from there? Dankeschoen!
Many thanks! Yes, I use a usb mini hub which also powers the ipad. For the Nymphes I use one of these usb split adapters which has a separate usb power port.
I would argument, that a mono synth isn't the best first synth. For me it's the Arturia Minifreak. It provides different oscillator engines, all controllable with 3 knobs. You don't have to understand how those engines work and instead play with these knobs and learn by sound. It provides a super simple to use sequencer and effects so you don't have to buy those (which you usually don't own if its your first synth) and it has a VST that can be used stand alone or to control the synth (also perfect for your first plugin). Not only that: Arturia provides extensive video tutorials and free preset banks.
Yes, absolutely, I fully agree, may be for absolute beginners the MiniFreak is a bit of a challenge...
@@PeteMidi I think you don't really have to understand as a beginner what the engines are doing. just select some random and listen to your ears whats happening. - I owned the OP-1 as first synth (I got it used for 400 back after a few years it was released). I never understood the engines, but it was so fast to select some and play around. it really got me interested.
Sorry the behringer lacks something. And that something is everything i want. Its really evident in a hollowness in the behringer. Harmonics complexity feels so flat. I wish it weren't so.....I wanted to love it.
I got the victor to start my eurorack collection as a good basis for a voice. Still waiting on a sequencer. But with some effects like reverb and delay the eurorack version is very versatile. Altough it only has the joystick and not any oth the other vca, filter and effects stuff the vs pro mini has. Cool jam!
😊
Phantastic ambient track! Love the fullness of the Pro VS mini. It's gorgeous, lush, alive! Is this a preset or tour creation?
Thanks a lot, I started with a preset and successively modified and adapted it to the track!
For me the differences can mainly be heard in the frequency spectrum. The Pro 800 sounds slightly forward in the lower mids. Also the Pro 800 sounds overdriven in the higher frequencies in comparison. On sound alone I think the Prophet 5 sounds a little more scooped and sparkly, which I prefer. But when you consider the price, the difference in tone becomes somewhat irrelevant.
Say and think what you will about Behringer, their biggest success is proving that good synths can be made more inexpensively and made affordable than the old guards Moog, Prophet, Roland and Oberheim were willing to admit or implement. Every market needs someone to shake it up from time to time.
First time here... Excellent!
Thanks a lot! 😊
With my Polyend Tracker as a sequencer and SP404 mk2 as a recorder and a Zoom CDR 70 as external effect this could be just the synth I want. I owned a Wavestation EX back in the day.
Pete, love your channel. Do you have a favorite of the Behringer (or other similarly priced modules)? Interested in adding something else with a unique character that can cut through the mix.
From the Behringer Monos I used the Pro-1 a lot, but since I have the Pro-800....
lovely! 🐽
😊
That Jam was so cool! Now Im glad I had just ordered one
😊
sounds beautiful❤
Thanks a lot! 😊
It has four independent synthesizers, does that mean you can have four sequence loops running together?
Yes, four independent synths!
great performance bro, volca masterclass
Thanks a lot! 😊
Do you review cameras too?
No, not yet 😉
This confirms everything I thought I was hearing, what a great comparison.
😊
Very cool
😊
I’ve had mine for 2 months and my goodness it has so many beautiful, lush and vintage sounds!!
😊
lovely ! very nice.. unrelated question - did you try switch presets on VS from elektron box using program changes? I can’t crack one thing - on VS i have midi tx/rx set to midi chsnnel 1 but looks like it switches preset even if prpgram change is set from Digitakt on any other midi channel .. Any chance you hit in thisx? It’s really VS bug ?
Fantastic comparison video, really great! Now my old and battered ears should never be used as any audio reference, but i'd still like to share my impression and knowledge about the electronics inside ... - It seems to me, as a constant throughout this video, the p-5 has a little more volume than the p-800. Easy to fix using any common mixer. - It seems to me, as a constant throughout this video, the p-5 has a little more low end and is a bit brighter on the high end, than the p-800. Also easy to fix using any common mixer. The differences are minute. In theory this is expected, since both companies use modern versions of the original CEM integrated circuits. Thanks to Dave Smith the heirs of Doug Curtis have started to reproduce the original line of CEM ICs. Other manufacturers like Oberheim, Roland and Korg, to name a few have also benefitted from that. Now Behringer took a somewhat different route. He set up mass-production lines for ICs similar to the original CEMs as well as for other analog components that had long been out of production, especially the LM13700 OTAs and some transistors. These components were intensively used in older synthesizers, even before the first CEM ICs appeared. And since Behringer specializes in recreating vintage synths from various original brands they require huge numbers of all of these components, making their manufacturing line profitable. The sound differences being minute, a choice between these two would, for me, depend on size and on features (e.g. polymod on p-5, 8 voices on p-800).
Many thanks for the feedback!
I cannot get it to connect to synthtribe. Have you had any issues with connecting it?
Luckily, I had no problems...
There are tiny differences , but nothing worth 5-6x the price difference.
